The 1st Malaysian Pedal Car Race was held last year and it was a resounding success. The Penang Turf Club is organising these annual races to assist the Penang State Government to promote tourism in Penang. It is also hoped that this environmentally friendly sport will become popular both with school children and adults. A healthy sport is beneficial to all.

This year’s race is on 17 August 2008 from 8.30 am to 6.00 pm. The venue is that beautiful and historical street circuit near Fort Cornwallis, the Esplanade and Town Hall in Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia. (See Google Map below). The race has the support of the Penang Tourism Action Council as well as MPPP (City Council).

You can take part in this exciting event as a sponsor in the following ways:-

1. 1.Purchase a new pedal car from us for RM6000. This will enable you to field a team of 5 persons (one is a reserve) to race your pedal car under your company’s colours.
   

2. 2.Sponsor part of the beautiful & historical circuit. For example you can sponsor the “Light Street Straight” for RM30,000. This will entitle you to put whatever advertisement you like along that stretch of the circuit subject to good taste.
   

3. 3.Donate prizes for the Lucky Draw which is open to all competitors. Your donations will be suitably publicized.
   

4. 4.Supply food and drinks to all competitors and event helpers. In return you will be allowed to sell your food and drinks at the event and also receive extensive publicity for your business.

The Penang Turf Club has got 20 professionally engineered pedal cars specially made for racing. These cars cost the club RM100,000. If you are from a school, college or university, you can form a team of 5 persons (one is a reserve) and the club will loan you a pedal car free of charge to enable you to take part in the event. You will need to write in under the letterhead of your school, college or university. Fax your letter to my mobile fax: 012-4924788.

Similarly, if you belong to a club, association or society, you can apply to participate under the letterhead of your club, association or society.

Trophies will be awarded to teams that finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

All competitors will be entitled to take part in a Lucky Draw where valuable prizes are to be given away. Every single competitor will get a prize. Last year we gave away iPods, car MP3 players, computer hard disks, shoes and free stays at the exclusive bungalow of the club in Penang Hill. We hope to provide even better prizes this year.

The race is a relay where each competitor will pedal a total of 2 laps round the circuit. Each lap is 1.1 km in length and therefore each competitor pedals 2.2 km. We race clockwise and all competitors must wear cycling helmets. Other forms of protective clothing are optional but advisable. A simple set of racing rules will be issued to all competitors when practices start.

Competitors who have no experience in pedal car racing are required to attend at least 4 practice sessions to be held at the Penang Turf Club in Batu Gantong, Penang. These practices are essential so that all competitors can learn how to control and handle the pedal cars which are specially made for racing. These racing pedal cars are not toys! People who do not have sufficient practice will not only be a danger to themselves but also to others. Practice times will be announced  about 3 months before the event.
